Sotogrande Golf

The Costa del Sol is a golfer’s paradise and where the Costa del Sol as its most southerly point lies the sea side resort of Sotogrande. Sotogrande is also home to the Sotogrande International School which is an independent school specialising in co-education from the age of three until eighteen. Sotogrande is less than ten minutes away by car to Gibraltar which is also the nearest airport in a part of the Costa del Sol by the name of Andalucia. Just behind Gibraltar lies the port of Algeciras begins the Costa de la Luz, the coast of light. Malaga Airport is about an hour away by car.

Sotogrande is a luxury development and with it comes an abundance of golf courses. There seem to be more golf courses in this part of Spain than anywhere else. To the south of Sotogrande is the Alcaidesa Links Golf Course, and then there are the San Roque Golf Club, Almenara Hotel-Golf, Club de Golf Valderrama, La Reserva de Sotogrande, Club de Golf La Cañada, Real Club de Golf Sotogrande. All these golf courses are in Sotogrande or in the immediate vicinity.

A few kilometres to the north of Sotogrande in San Luis de Sabinillas are the golf courses of the La Duquesa Golf and Country Club, the Don Julia Golf Club, Casares Costa Golf, Finca Cortesin Golf Club, Estepona Golf and the Valle Romano Golf & Resort. To the north one will find the resort of Estepona with plenty more golf courses.

The Sotogrande weather has much to do with the popularity of the resort with a good array of beaches Sotogrande is very busy in the summer. Sotogrande beaches include the Cala Chullera Beach, Cala Manilva Beach, San Diego Beach, El Cabrero Beach, Torreguadiaro Beach, Playa del Puerto beach and the E Cucurucho Beach. Sotogrande has over three hundred and thirty days of sunshine a year. Winters are vey mild with just the odd shower. The average annual temperature in Sotogrande is twenty degrees centigrade and it is with little wonder that combined with luxurious five star Sotogrande hotels, Sotogrande beaches and Sotogrande golf courses that Sotogrande is popular all year round. Gibraltar with its duty free shops is an added bonus especially for expats living in the resort.
