Santa Pola is located on the Southern Costa Blanca in Spain and is only ten kilometres away from Alicante Airport. Santa Pola is a very Spanish sea side resort compared to resorts such as Torrevieja and Benidorm. Santa Pola is known for fifteen kilometres of coastline and eleven kilometres of golden sandy beaches. Santa Pola beaches to the west of the resort include Pinet Beach, La Gola Beach, Playa Lissa Beach, Gran Playa Beach and Tamarit Beach. To the east of the Santa Pola resort centre are the beaches of Varadero Beach and Levante Beach.
Levante Beach and Gran Playa Beach are both great for wind surfing and the Levante Beach has been awarded and retained blue flag status since 1997 and has also received awards for its disabled access. At La Gola Beach is a zone especially reserved for kite surfing while at the Playa Lissa Beach there is a wind surfing school. Windsurf and catamaran rental facilities are available at Levante Beach, Gran Playa and Tamarit Beach.
Santa Pola also has a two yacht clubs which are the Ocio Nautico and the Club Nautico de Santa Pola as well as two scuba diving schools which are the Dive Academy Santa Pola and Scuba Elx. Santa Pola is an ideal resort for sailing, wind surfing, kite surfing, scuba diving and swimming. At the Playa Chica one can hire equipment and takes classes in kite surfing kayaking, sailing, surfing and body surfing at the Parres Centre.
Playa Lissa, Tamarit Beach and Gran Playa beach are the best beaches for families with small children as the waters are shallow and calm. To the east of the Playa Levante are the Santiago Bernabeu Calas, Varadero beach and Calas de Santa Pola de Este beaches which are protected from the northerly winds by the hills which have provided a micro climate with crystal clear calm water ideal for snorkelling.
The Kite surfing season in Santa Pola begins in the spring and are reliant on the thermal Southerly winds which begin blowing after one in the afternoon after the sun has heated the land and blow until eight in the evening when the land begins to cool down. Thermal winds blow from late February until the end of November which is ideal for kite surfing in Santa Pola at any level as the resort has relatively calm seas.
Santa Pola beaches are deep and flanked by promenades ideal for lunch and refreshments. Sun loungers and parasols are available for rent at most beaches. Santa Pola beaches are cleaned on a daily basis and will always be found in pristine condition throughout the year. During the peak tourist season there is always a life guard and local police on patrol. Santa Pola beaches near the resort centre also have a platform for swimming out to and organised daily aerobic classes.
For a beach front hotel there is the three star Hotel Polamar which is located right on the Levante Beach and rates start at €39.50 based on a quadruple occupancy and a bed and breakfast basis.
