San Juan de Alicante

San Juan de Alicante or Sant Joan d’Alacant can be found on a map of Spain on the northern Costa Blanca just eight kilometres north of the bustling harbour city of Alicante. To the north of San Juan is the sea side resort of El Campello and Mutxamel lies immediately inland. The nearest airport is a short fifteen minute transfer away at El Altet which is located just south of Alicante

San Juan de Alicante is known for its beautiful golden sandy blue flag seven kilometre beach on the Mediterranean Sea. Like most Costa Blanca resorts San Juan is divided into two areas, the San Juan Playa and the San Juan Pueblo.

San Juan de Alicante weather presents hot sunny summer days with no rain owing to its Mediterranean climate. There is no rain in the summer in San Juan and the temperature seldom falls below thirty degrees centigrade. The autumn months are usually hot and sunny without humidity while the spring weather can often be unpredictable with hot weather as well as cold weather with some rain. San Juan is known to have more than three hundred days of sunshine and what little rain there is falls in the winter months. Temperatures in the winter months often hot the twenty degree mark mid day although it can be as cold as five degrees in the early morning and late evening.

The Playa San Juan begins at the Cabo Las Huertas and extends to the Mutxavista Beach. Along this seven kilometre stretch of golden sandy beach are an assortment of hotels, restaurants, chiringuitos, bars and riveting San Juan de Alicante nightlife. At the beach itself is a red cross station, a life guard tower, gym, tourist office, toilets, water sports, showers, foot showers, volleyball nets and a large play area for children. On the south end of the beach there is a picture post card light house.

San Juan de Alicante is also home to an eighteen hole golf course by the name of the Alicante-San Juan Golf Club which was designed by the most famous of all Spanish golfers Severiano Ballesteros. San Juan also has some interesting monuments including the 17^th century Parish church, the monastery of Santa Faz, the hermitages of del Calvario , Santa Ana and San Rogue.

Important festivals in San Juan de Alicante include that to honour Santo Cristo de la Paz which is held from the 12^th until the 16^th of September, Hogueras de San Juan which is held in June and the pilgrimage to the Santa Faz Monastery which is held every second Thursday of the Holy Week.

Alicante is easily accessible from San Juan de Alicante via the tram and bys service as well as the Trensnochador which is a special train that runs from nine in the evening until seven in the morning starting in Alicante and ending in Altea while stopping at San Juan, El Campello, Villajoyosa and Benidorm with all of its Benidorm nightlife. Tickets for the Trensnochador include discounted tickets to the local clubs, bars and discos.
