Nerja is an upmarket sea side resort located on the Costa del Sol in Spain. Nerja is very busy in the summer months owing to the hot weather without any rain and the glorious sandy beaches. Nerja has a total of ten beaches, two of which were awarded blue flag status in 2006.
The Playa Burriana is one of the beaches awarded blue flag status in 2006. The Playa Burriana can be reached on foot from the town centre but there is also plenty of parking available at the beach. The Playa Burriana or Burriana beach Nerja is a mixture of sand and pebbles and facilities at the beach include sun loungers and parasols for hire. Water sports are on offer at the Playa Burriana which includes pedalos and scuba diving and day cruises along the coast are also on offer. There is also a good range of bars, cafes, pubs, restaurants and shops located at the Playa Burriana.
The Playa Torrecilla is the other beach that received blue flag status in 2006. The Playa Torrecilla is the second most popular beach in Nerja. Facilities at the Playa Torrecilla include sun loungers and parasols for hire. The Playa Torrecilla has been artificially widened to create a perfect beach for young children with calm shallow water. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes at the Playa Torrecilla.
The Playa El Salon is minutes away from the resort centre and is a small and secluded beach, a bit of an insider tip. The Playa El Salon is a sandy beach with a beach bar. The Playa El Salon is located just off the Paseo Balcon Europa near the Toboso Apart-hotel.
The Playa Calahonda is located to the left of the Balcon and can be reached from the Nerja Tourist Office via a small path. The Playa Calahonda is a sheltered beach because of the rocks on both sides and the beach is a mixture of sand and pebbles. Facilities at the Playa Calahonda include sun beds and parasols for hire an a restaurant which is only open during the tourist season.
The Playa Caletilla is a small beach golden sandy beach which is located in front of the Hotel Balcon de Europa. The Playa Caletilla can easily be accessed from the Hotel Balcon de Europa or from the Playa Calahonda.
The Playa Carabeo is located along the Paseo de los Carabineros or can be accessed from the Calle Carabeo next to the Old Town. This is a sheltered cove which is surrounded by rocks.
The Playa Carabeilllo The Playa Carabeillo is located next to the Playa Burriana and is a mixture of sand and shingle and can be accessed from the end of Calle Carabeo.
The Playa El Chucho is a small beach located between the Playa Torrecilla and the Playa El Playazo.
The Playa El Chorillo is a small cove and is located between the Playa Calahonda and the Playa Carabeo and can be reached from a small coastal path.
The Playa El Playazo is the longest of Nerja’s beaches and is located at the most western side of the resort and is more than a mile long. The Playa El Playazo can be accessed by car and on foot. Because of the size of the beach it is never overcrowded. Facilities at the Playa El Playazo include sun loungers and parasols for hire and toilets and showers in the tourist season. The Marinas de Nerja Hotel is located on the Playa El Playazo and there are also some beach bars along the beach front.
Nerja along with neighbouring seaside resorts of Maro to the east and Torrox to the west are the perfect places along the Eastern Costa del Sol for a beach holiday.
