Malaga isn’t an obvious tourist destination and most visitors coming to the Costa del Sol know it only because Malaga Airport is the gateway to the Costa del Sol resorts. Malaga is known for its nightlife, bars and restaurants and also has many points of interest for day tourists to the city.

Places of interest in Malaga for day tourists include the Buenavista Palace, the Jose Maria Martin Carpena Arena, the Alcazaba de Malaga and the Malaga Cathedral. Sporting events such as football take place in the Estadio La Rosaleda. Art lovers can have a day out at the Centro de Arte Contemporaneo. The Plaza de Toros de Malagueta is where locals and tourists go to see the spectacle of bull fighting.

Malaga also has some blue flag beaches popular with locals and visitors to the city. Malaga is good for a city break where in the summer one can visit the beaches as well.

The Playa de Malagueta is a blue flag beach ten minutes away from Malaga City Centre. The Playa de Malagueta is just over a kilometre in length with black sand, lifeguards, restaurants and beach bars. Sun loungers and parasols are available for rent. The Playa Malagueta can be accessed from the Paseo Pablo Picasso and is on the bus route from the Malaga City Centre.

The Playa Polo is a popular beach and is situated next to the El Candado marina. The Playa Palo offers a good range of water sports including sailing and scuba diving. Playa Palo has life guard on duty, a promenade with restaurants, bars and shops, beach bars and free parking.

The Playa Huellin is located on the Antonio Banderas promenade. The Playa Huellin is easily accessible by bus from the Malaga City Centre. Facilities at the Playa Huellin include parasols and sun loungers for hire, showers and toilets. There is always a life guard on duty and beach bars serve refreshments.

The Playa Las Acacias is over one kilometre in length and twenty metres wide and has grey sand. The Playa Las Acacias has great facilities and a promenade. The Playa Las Acacias is a popular beach for families with children because of the range of facilities and play areas.

Popular beaches near Malaga include the Playa Torrox which is thirty minutes away by car and the Playa Benajarafe in Velez Malaga which has dark fine sand and is four kilometres long and thirty-three metres wide. The Playa Almayate Bajamar in Velez Malaga is also four kilometres long and is a nudist beach. The Playa Almayate Bajamar is an unspoilt beach with very few facilities.

A Malaga vacation provides the best of holidays, beach holiday as well as a city holiday. People coming to Malaga on business have the option of relaxing at the beaches after their meetings and locals have many work opportunities in the city and plenty of recreation as well.
