Costa del Sol

The Costa del Sol is the most popular of the Costas. The Costa del Sol or Sunny Coast attracts thousands of holidaymakers annually because of its beaches, weather, night life and beach clubs.

Holidaymakers flying into the Costa del Sol can choose to fly into Malaga International Airport or Gibraltar Airport for those holidaymakers coming to the south easterly resorts on the Costa del Sol.

The Costa del Sol stretches from Gibraltar in the south, to Nerja in the east and the most popular sea side resorts, towns and cities between these two cities are Sotogrande, Manilva, Estepona, Puerto Banus, Marbella, Fuengirola, Mijas, Benalmadena, Torremolinos, Malaga, Torre del Mar, Torrox, Nerja, Maro, Motril, Salobreña and Almuñecar. On the Costa Tropical Map one will also often find Motril, Almuñecar and Salobreña. The inland towns and cities of Granada, Ronda and Frigiliana are also popular and well worth a visit. In the winter time on the Costa del Sol it is possible to go skiing in the morning in Granada and sunbathe in the afternoon on the Nerja beaches.

Malaga is an important city and port with an international airport and port with regular ferry services to Melilla. The most famous of all the sea side resorts is Marbella which attracts famous people from all walks of life to its fair shores. The Costa del Sol is famous for its beach clubs such as Nikki Beach Marbella, Ocean Club Marbella, Buddha Beach Marbella, Puro Beach Marbella and Mistral Beach Marbella. Marbella and Puerto Banus are picturesque resorts when looking at their marinas and the mooring yachts.

The Costa del Sol is also known for its luxury five star hotels such as the Hotel Gualdalpin Marbella and the Guadalpin Puerto Banus. Holiday accommodation for tourists on packaged holidays are either in luxurious beach front hotels, or in the mass tourist resorts of Torremolinos and Fuengirola in hotels, apart hotels or apartments. Benalmadena and Nerja are also considered to be upmarket sea side resorts. Many of the villas and apartments for sale and to rent are on complexes or on golf courses is the way of life on the Costa del Sol.

Costa del Sol theme parks include Aqualand Torremolinos which is open from the 21st of May until the 18th of September. Tivoli World is open all year round and is located two kilometres inland from Benalmadena and is the largest amusement park on the Costa del Sol and offers rides as well as Wild West and Flamenco shows. The Benalmadena Cable Car is located next to Tivoli World and included in the ticket are donkey rides, exhibitions with birds of prey and Spanish horse riding. The trip takes fifteen minutes and then of course there re the beautiful views of the Costa del Sol and on very clear days North Africa as well. The Benalmadena Sea Life Aquarium is open all year round. The Selwo Adventure Park is located near Estepona and is open all year round. The Selwo Adventure Park is a mixture of nature park, safari and adventure park. Selwo Marina is located in Benalmadena and is open from February until December. Here one can see marine life from South America as well as dolphins and sea lions. Aquapark Mijas is open from the 24th of April until the 1st of October. Natura Adventura is open all year round and has activities such as rock climbing, kayaking and paintballing. Fuengirola Zoo, the Torremolinos Crocodile Park, Senda Retiro and El Ranchito are also worth a visit. The Aqua Velis Park in Torre del Mar is open from mid June until mid September.

Costa del Sol excursions are also available by coach from the local sea side resorts to Nerja, Cordoba, Seville, Ronda, Granada and Gibraltar. There are also ferry services available to Tangier in North Africa for a full day trip to Morocco.

There is never a dull moment for holidaymakers on the Costa del Sol.
