The Costa Dorada or the Costa Daurada begins south of Barcelona in the north and ends with the sea side resort of Amposta close to the Ebro Delta. The River Ebro delta is the largest in Spain and here rice is grown and also a wide range of fauna and birds can be seen in this rather unique environment.
North of the Costa Dorada one will find the Costa Brava with the sea side resorts of Lloret de Mar and Blanes while to the south of the Costa Dorada is the Costa Azahar with the resorts of Vinaros, Benicarlo and Benicassim. The Costa Dorada translates to the golden coast owing to the two hundred and twenty five kilometres of golden coastline.
Tourists visiting the Costa Dorada can fly into Reus Airport which is located to the north of Tarragona and El Prat which is Barcelona Airport to the north and the second busiest airport in Spain. Popular Costa Dorada sea side resorts include Sitges, Cambrils, Salou, Amtella de Mar, L’Ampolla and La Pineda. Off the beaten track Costa Dorada sea side resorts include Torredembarra, Castelldefels, Cubelles, Calafell, Creixell, Mont Roig Bahia and Els Pins de Miramar. Inland towns worth visiting include Mont Roig del Camp and Lleida. Tarragona is also one of the most important cities on a map of Costa Dorada.
Costa Dorada theme parks include Universal Mediterranea which consists of the Port Aventura Theme Park and the Costa Caribe Water Park and are located in Salou. Port Aventura is open from the first week of April until the first week of January. The Aqualeon Safari and Water Park is located in Tarragona from June the 18th until September the 4th. Aquopolis Costa Dorada is located in La Pineda and is open from the 16th of May until the 7th of October. The onsite Dolphinarium is open on Sundays only and admission is €7 for everybody. Rates at Aquopolis La Pineda start at €19.50 for children and €25.50 for Adults at the gate.
For some culture the city to visit on the Costa Dorada is Tarragona. In Tarrgona one can see the Passeig Arqueologic, the cathedral, the Tarragona Ampitheatre, the National Archaeology Museum, Aqueduct, the Circo Romano, and the El Sarallo. Tarragona is also known for its beaches. Tarragona beaches include Arabassada Beach, Cala Font, Cala Crancs, Capellans Beach, Penya Tallada Beach, Llarga Beach, Playa Larga, Llenguadets Beach, Llevant Beach, Playa Miragla, Ponent Beach and Savinosa Beach. Of course if one is staying in the resort of Sitges then Barcelona with all of its culture is just a short trip away.
