The Costa Blanca
The Costa Blanca is one of the most visited tourist destination in Spain. There are three airports that one can fly into to access the sea side resorts of the Costa Blanca. The Costa Blanca is also blessed with three hundred days of annual sunshine and a Mediteranean climate meaning hot sunny weather in summer with a guarantee of no rain and very mild winter days.
Murcia Airport is located on the Southern Costa Blanca and is easily accessible from the sea side resorts south of Torrevieja such as Playa Flamenca, La Zenia, Cabo Roig, Campoamor and La Regia as well as the sea side resorts of the Costa Calida and the Mar Menor.
Alicante Airport is the main hub servicing the resorts on the Northern Costa Blanca which include El Campello, San Juan d’Alacant, Villajoyosa, Benidorm, Altea, Calpe, Javea and Denia and an the Southern Costa Blanca the coastal resorts of Guardamar del Segura, Santa Pola, Gran Alacant and Torrevieja.
Valencia Airport is popular for holidaymakers coming to the sea side resorts of Gandia and Oliva on the Costa Azahar and the sea side resorts of Denia, Javea, Moraira, Benissa, Calpe, Altea, Albir and Benidorm.
On the northern Costa Blanca the most popular sea side resort is Benidorm which has a lot to do with the golden sandy blue flag beaches of the Playa Levante, Playa Poniente and Cala Finestrat. Benidorm has four theme parks of Aqualandia, Mundomar, Terra Mitica and Terra Natura. Benidorm nightlife is legendary with the resort having over 1000 bars, pubs, restaurants, nightclubs and discos all offering some form of entertainment.
On the Northern Costa Blanca the sea side resort of Javea is the most popular with British holidaymakers. Moraira is known as an upmarket sea side resort with some fantastic scuba diving. The most northerly Costa Blanca sea side resort is Denia which is picturesque with the Denia Castle and the port has regular ferry services to the party island of Ibiza. Calpe is known for its Penon d’Ifach and the unique dining experience at the Fish Market where one can sample mussels chopitos and sangria for free. Altea is popular with Dutch tourists and is the most exclusive of the sea side resorts with the urbanisation of Altea Hills. Albir is for holidaymakers who want to get away from it all in upmarket surroundings and still have Benidorm with its theme parks and nightlife in close proximity. Villajoyosa is the hidden secret of the Northern Costa Blanca when it comes to white sandy unspoilt beaches. El Campello is a quiet sea side resort which is very popular with Spanish tourists with a pretty beach, fishing harbour and a wide selection of bars and restaurants. San Juan Alacant is known for its mile long golden sandy beaches and summer nightlife when the residents of Alicante come to town.
Alicante has much to offer tourists and visitors as well. Alicante beaches, nightlife, museums and shopping are at their best. To the south of Alicante is the sea side of Gran Alacant which has grown into a family friendly resort with a glorious beach known as Carabassi beach. Santa Pola is a very Spanish sea side resort popular with international tourists and only ten minutes away from Alicante Airport. Guardamar del Segura is well known for mile long beaches and luxurious villas for rent. At Playa Flamenca one will find the beaches of Cala Peñas, Cala Mosca and Cala Estaca. Cabo Roig beaches include Cala Capitan Cabo Roig Beach and the Playa Marina. The Cabo Roig Strip attracts visitors from the neighbouring resorts of La Zenia and Campoamor as well. In La Zenia everything is within walking distance and then main beaches of Cala Bosque and the Cala Cerrada. Campoamor is an upmarket sea side resort with golden sandy beaches and the Campoamor Golf Course. La Regia is a small quiet sea side resort which is off the beaten track and has a hotel with the same name the La Regia Hotel. Mil Palmeras is well known for its palm lined beaches hence the name Mil Palmeras. To the south of Mil Palmeras are the resorts of Torre de la Horadada and Pilar de la Horadada and further to the south is the sea side resort of San Pedro del Pinatar.
Of the Southern Costa Blanca sea side resorts Torrevieja is the most frequently visited. Torrevieja is known for its beachfront and promenade, the Habaneras Shopping Centre, its bars, restaurants and nightlife. Torrevieja has a water park by the name of Aquopolis. Torrevieja has a pretty marina and a submarine one can tour which is the S-61 Delfin submarine. Torrevieja beaches include the Playa de los Naufragos, Playa del Acequion, the Torrevieja Beach with its promenade the Paseo Maritimo, Playa del Cura, Playa de los Locos, Calas de Torrevieja and the Playa de la Mata.Torrevieja nightlife is the best in the area.
The Costa Blanca has more than its fair share of beaches and one can also take day trips to the natural wonders of the Algar Falls and the Canelobre Caves. Guadelest is one of the top tourist destinations in Spain and can be accessed from Benidorm and the village of Polop.
